The Next Chapter

I could not leave Elie soon enough. Not only does that town have the distinction of being in rare company with its F5 tornado, but it’s got a railway right in its center and I’m guessing no fewer than 15 trains barrelled past our motorhome during the night.

We set out east, running and biking at 8am and about two hours later arrived in Headingley, a distance of approximately 13 miles. With western Manitoba now behind us, we have reached very familiar roadways. Because we are only 45 minutes from home, these are miles I have driven countless times over the years and suddenly every gas station, business and intersection will bring with it a sense of familiarity. Feels like we are starting a new chapter in this journey.

Prime Meridian Canada
Wife Perspective; I will not complain when we get to bike a bunch of miles on a deserted highway. Guessing it was once the TransCanada highway and now sits lonely off to the north feeling neglected. Don’t get me wrong. I feel very safe biking on the shoulder; they are wide and we aren’t doing any miles in the dark this year. I’m way more nervous biking local roads where there is some gravel & a steep ditch as the off the road options.
Today we got some more waves and even some flashed lights from truckers, that’s always an encouragement when strangers take the time to give some cheer to us as they pass by; don’t underestimate the impact you can have on others with simple kindness.
Yesterday the down time was used for napping today I was ready for some water. Headingley has a very nice splash pad and I made myself at home on a patch of grass after smoothies and sausage burgers were made and consumed. I felt very proud of my smoothie creation as it was being compared to the apex of non-alcoholic smoothies made by our dear friend Fran, which we enjoy poolside in PS. Hey. Anytime good memories can be reminisced during this physically taxing adventure I can only believe it’s good for us.
