About
Hi, my name is Shannon. On July 27, 2019 I plan to start running from the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border. Lord willing, between 7 and 10 days later I will arrive at the Manitoba/Ontario border, a distance of approximately 500 kilometres, or more than 300 miles.
Ever since I was a young boy, I have been inspired and intrigued by people who set out to run great distances. It was always in the back of my head to one day attempt to run across Canada. However, I eventually came to realize the logistics of such an endeavour were probably too unrealistic and so I opted for a more manageable, yet still daunting, run.Two years ago I circled the summer of 2019 on my calendar, as the date to attempt my own personal version of "The Manitoba Marathon."
I have long been a runner, but have spent the last many months making the switch from a speed runner to an endurance runner. I have trained on the beaches of Mexico, the streets of Palm Springs, the track in Steinbach and the bays of Rosenort. I have run in heat, cold, hail, rain and wind. I have learned to appreciate ice baths and four-a-days, and the entire time had the most supportive of wives at my side. Now, with less than a month to go, the goal seems possible as the start line nears.
