Party Bus
Wife perspective; I should be sleeping but the party bus just became a sleeping bus (at least when I started typing this). Shannon’s been in bed Since the 9 o’clock hour. Not trying to be antisocial, but the guy is spent. So many faces today. Wow. It’s been a full day of visitors, a great day of visitors.
We picked up some hitch hikers when we left town this morning; a mid 30’s guy and a 6yr old. Well, that might not be accurate, it was a preplanned pickup and a very Much appreciated tag along at that. Jared & Emmet are having a sleepover with us; which means we’ve got a relief driver! Who also became the road side bike repairman too. Don’t worry we had Mikie on speeddial for assistance.
Several pedals into our morning run I felt I was biking way too hard for the easy terrain and light wind; I yelled back to Shannon and he confirmed my rear tire was flat. He continued on while I called for an assist from Jared who drove on up to assist filling my tire with the compressor we’ve got packed. A very nice Frenchman biked by as I was waiting on the side of the road and offered his help, which I nicely declined as Fleetwood was on its way to my aid. Filled the tire and eventually caught up to Shannon before Pembina.
The perimeter was busy, loud and a bit intimidating to me today. It was also surreal as we were crossing roadways we’ve travelled by car our whole life; like the Pembina overpass. The overpasses were better for Navigation today.
After the run I was hungry and McD meal was in my sights. So we drove on over to sage creek where we learnt the real menu (not breakfast) only starts at 11am. So we made due with their breakfast menu but I could still was able to get a vanilla shake so I was pleased.
As we were parked in the Sobey’s parking lot determining what to do about my tire a van pulls up with family specifically hunting us down. We feel so honoured by all the love. I also appreciated my little cousins assist on using up the last of the milk that now didn’t fit in the fridge as we’d just bought a new carton to ensure we had enough supplies for our overnight guests when breakfast rolls around tomorrow.
We pointed Fleetwood towards the nearest Canadian tire; which by the way really lacks in tire stock. Found some supplies and Jared performed a very needed and appreciated tire replacement.
A splash park was located and we spent a bunch of our day there getting wet and playing games. It’s so less awkward spending time at a splash park when you’ve got a kid in tow.
Arrangements became fast & furious and soon Fleetwood was turning into a party bus; the evening run had the RV packed out with a cheering section and two extra bikers. Aunt Norma and Kristan hung out in the RV as Jared drove the 10miles and the Waldner’s joined us on the side of the highway for the great adventure of biking on the side of a wicked busy highway. Deacons corner was the site of a big group visit as the Keating’s rolled by on their motorcycle and took the time to give encouragement to Shannon as he got a water refill. As we were about to continue on a black truck with fire plates towing a boat starts to honk and wave and makes the turn to our group on the side of the road. The Toews took time to say hi as they headed home from long weekend fun in lake country; the quick brake tune up both Tam & I received was so very much appreciated, watching Mikie run across four lanes of traffic when I left him know Tam also was minus a brake was priceless because that’s just him, always helping others. we were joking earlier that 1 out of 2 brakes working wasn’t too bad, not expecting a surprise tune up.
Well we’ve officially turned the corner to head east, signs for Kenora are the new road markers and I’m so proud of Shannon. This isn’t easy. He knows at all times how many more miles he has till his end destination, he knows how his body is hurting, he knows when he goes to take a nap or to sleep that he’s doing it all over again when he wakes.
He ran a couple miles past Deacons Corner tonight, so today was a 20mile day. Where we will be when, don’t know. I think planning was a down fall last year as it layered stress, and so he is trying to be really casual and fluid with this all. So please don’t be offended if we can’t provide details before we actually KNOW (as in we’ve started running so we then know what time we are running or we just finished so we know how far we are going). In general about 2hrs are ran in the morning between 8am-10am ISH and two hours in the evening between 6pm-8pm ISH.
I’m sure I’m forgetting good novel type parts of our day but it’s late and I should be sleeping.
