Friendly Faces
Wife perspective; Its been a day, a good day. I'm not a huge fan of biking the perimeter; its so cluttered with debris and just feels uncomfortable. Hum. Well. The Wilkes overpass, not my favorite. I parked Fleetwood just south of the Wilkes overpass as that was the 10km mark, on the shoulder, got my bike off the bike and started peddling like i meant it against wind. I obviously see the overpass coming up quickly, bike in lowest gear and get to the top to discover, IT DOESN'T have a shoulder, come on! okay. Now what. plan B. Well what is that? so i look down and see someone biking the loop underneath. Time to give that a shot. how do i get down quickly? walk my bike down the cement embankment to get to ground floor; praise be my shoes had enough grip and i didn't hurt myself. I then proceeded to bike up the ramp to access the north bound part of this Wilkes overpass nightmare. Again, there is no shoulder. i bide my time at the top where the shoulder ends, see my opening in my rear view mirror and burn rubber across the overpass while no vehicles are near... well by the time i accomplished my feat (boy did it feel like a feat) vehicles were gaining.
I eventually meet up with Shannon as he is exiting the Roblin access to the perimeter and off we go together to finish the last miles of the day. I warn him the overpass is going to be tricky. Same technique of waiting for an opening got us past that obstacle. As we are cresting the overpass i see people and a vehicle near Fleetwood; my heart did sink. Are they trying to steal it, are we getting a traffic violation, did someone hit it....and then i say; i think its my boss & his family. Sure enough! They waited 10 mins by Fleetwood so they could cheer us on and pray a blessing over us. Be still my heart. Come on! This life is not real; strangers honk & wave, i drive a 32' RV like its a golf cart, we run/bike on the side of Canada's connecting highway like its St. Vital Park, people pray & encourage us and WANT us to accomplish Shannon's dream...and we think this world is crumbling and horrible (well it is a fallen world) BUT i want to say there is still good people who want good for others.
Not sure what Shannon is all going to share. He is currently tucked in bed; not just any bed, OUR bed. The one in our home! Yup! We stopped today just by the Vet clinic on the perimeter, so close to the La Salle turnoff. Obviously we'd take advantage of the option of an ice bath and our actual bed.
I will also say; DO NOT feel bad if you pass us on our journey and only realize too late it was us. We get it. Who expects to come upon a runner & biker who you know while traveling to wherever you are going. But it is fun to receive texts and find out the pass occurred.
A huge thank you to my mom for all the things i continue to steal from her. I do let her know once i've five fingered the items. Like tonight; our drying rack broke and so i grabbed one from her house. thanks!
