Nice Night For a Run
Today was a good, tiring day. After our 11 mile run to Douglas this morning, we decided to take the afternoon off to beat the heat, leave the T-Can and head south to Shilo. After a free, veterans appreciation bbq, Tracy managed to sweet talk us into the swimming pool durning
non-public swim hours. We had a great time...us and the 40 or so, six year olds who were there for summer day camp.
While waiting out the 30 degree heat, we ended up getting visitors from back home...always refreshing to see familiar faces.
By 8pm we figured it was “cool” enough and so we began the next running leg. In the months leading up to this adventure, I prayed many times for God to either push, pull or carry me across Manitoba. In the last two days I have climbed the steepest hills the T-Can has to offer in Manitoba. Often while climbing I will look down at my watch and wonder how I am still maintaining my flatland pace. You may choose to differ, but I believe this was God answering that specific prayer request I had for months!
After 16 miles, including the last few in the dark, we made it to Carberry. The legs are tired, I have a toenail that appears ready to fall off and several blisters but all is good!
The wife Perspective; goodnight is all I want to say but that wouldn’t do justice to our fun day. Shannon ran from Brandon to Douglas this morning and because it’s a hot summer (such a great thing for you all but not for us pavement dwellers) we knew that many hours had to be spent out of the sun. Well, while in Shilo I went to check out the pool I mentioned earlier. Turns out no public swim on Wednesday’s till 6:30; well, running across MB holds weight like the honeymoon card, things just happen. When the ladies at the community centre learnt why we were in town an exception was made and we were allowed to join the local kids club who had the pool rented. And yes, of course I took a turn going down the slide. Also a very sweet local pulled up beside Fleetwood while we were parked in the parking lot beside the community centre in his gator and let us know about the FREE campground just down the block; so obviously I jumped in his gator with him so that he could show me. My trusting ways, mercy. So after our swim we moved locations to the campground and rested; however we knew another visitation was going to occur!!
When one visitor is a hair dresser and the other visitor needs a hair cut; the free campground at Shilo is a great place to setup an outdoor salon.
Seriously, the heat that doesn’t seem to go away, we got a later start for run number two as we waited out the thermostat. Such beautiful countryside we get to see at a pace which one can actually take more, unlike driving a vehicle with the intentions of getting to a destination in rapid speed. As the evening turned in to night we’d go through short little sections where the air was really cold, so refreshing. What I didn’t like was feeling like a windshield; oh my, I got pellets by SO many bugs tonight. Also, Carberry doesn’t have a campground, really?! So we are parked in some lot of a business, I sure hope we don’t have an angry person banging on our door bright and early.
Way to go!
