Last Day

Wife perspective; last day on the road. A thunderstorm rolled through during the night. I don’t know how people sleep in houses with tin roofs, or near a train track or near a highway. I will take my quiet little town (when the neighbours aren’t ripping around after 9pm on their quads & dirt bikes).

Highway marker 480. That is where Shannon laid his hands and stopped his feet this morning. I dropped Shannon off at his starting area around 8:15am; all excited the morning was cloudy post thunderstorm and raced to drop Fleetwood off at Falcon. Well the clouds dispersed pretty quickly and instead a beautiful beach day emerged instead of a beautiful running morning. But there were moments where a tiny little cotton ball cloud would cover the sun or an out of nowhere cool breeze would occur and it gave Shannon just enough relief from the heat to keep going.

When Shannon realized he was about to hit the single lane portion of the MB Eastern portion of the T-Can he did a little victory shout and said ‘we started on single lane let’s end on single lane’.

Well  I got my own road side treasure today. Could have picked up a little Canadian flag but instead I picked up a full on kids sand toy! Strapped it to my pack and biked 5+ miles with it. Ha. Gord I think I win.

It sure is a thrill when someone drives past that we know. Today, heading east a black car passes us with cheers and sure enough Todd is leaning out the driver window giving us his passing support.

My parents drove by a couple times and then picked us up at marker 480. Tossed my bike in the back of dads SUV, Shannon sat on a beach towel and they brought us back to Fleetwood. We headed right over to Shell with Fleetwood to get our propane filled; sure enjoy it was EMPTY. So that issue has been solved. We are setup at the All People’s church in Falcon with blessing from the pastor. When your in familiar territory you have more chance of seeing friends. And we have already!

Today’s lunch continues the delicious theme of last night; Margaret Waldner cinnamon buns delivered by the baker herself and Gondola pizza. Delish! I ate a whole cinnamon bun in rapid fashion as we chatted with the Waldners. Oh man it was so delicious!

We have had to explain our afternoon setup to a church board member and the Park Patrol. Everyone is kind and honestly the line ‘my husband is running across MB’ is kind of a get out of jail free card.

So tonight this will be finished. Set out sometime after 5pm at the 480 marker  and 6 miles later this many years in the making journey will be done. Our marriage is only stronger. Relations with friends has only deepened. We know God is our sustainer. And I may cry.

My view for more then 138 miles

Never too old to be excited to see your parents.

He’d never seen one completely empty. Okay. We aren’t crazy.
This lady is a pure gem. No questions. She does so many kind and generous things for people plus she has to be the best Subway staffer ever, anywhere. She remembers everyone’s likes and always makes your order just perfect. Shannon’s growing blister even photobombed the picture.

  1. Congratulations, Shannon! What an amazing accomplishment and journey. And to both of you, Shannon and Tracy, thanks for sharing what’s been going on in all of these posts.

    Michael.
