East Wind of Change

What a boost Thursday night was! I told Tracy on Thursday evening that I wanted to just walk the Trans Canada Highway for my evening segment. My prayers were answered that it would feel less taxing on my body, while at the same time bringing me closer to the border. Thanks to my buddy Chris Schroeder for making it a relaxing evening, and thanks to all the other running friends, other friends and family who have offered their prayers and support along this journey.

Thursday night I slept ‘well.’ That is a very relative term. I sleep poorly at the best of times. By 8am I was back running. I got a huge boost when we hit Prawda. For years that has been a landmark, letting me know I’m not far from the lake.

The pace this morning was slow, but that is just fine with me. It felt like a cooldown lap after one of Greg’s workouts. We ended up running and cycling just over 9 miles before calling it quits for the morning. I consider it a small accomplishment that I ran the entire time, except when I stopped at Fleetwood halfway for a water break. At times it felt like the miles went quicker than expected, and there were moments it felt like I was being pushed...thank you Lord!

Tracy continues to be unbelievable! She has worn the hat of wife, chef, doctor, plumber, chauffeur, cheerleader, psychiatrist, personal Corpells delivery cyclist, etc.

The body is holding up. My feet have seen better days, thanks to the blister the size of a grape and two toenails that will now fall off premature.

Wife perspective; there was no dread as palpable as it’s been the past couple days, this morning. We packed up for our little secluded sleeping spot and went to the starting point to run. I at least really hoped running was the agenda. And it was. So why 9 miles, cause I parked Fleetwood a mile short. Dang. There are less through roads now at this point on the T-Can and I thought I’d calculated correctly that I needed to loop back 4 km; oh well, Shannon was gracious about the shortened run length. But again, he ran! At one point I heard him actually sound proud of himself when I confirmed we were indeed running up to and past the gas stations at Prawda.
There is more strength in his voice and physique. He ate our last tin without complaints of not being hungry and didn’t rush off to rest.
Here we come Ontario!
Oh. Side note. Another thing about me. I love to explore, more so places maybe I shouldn’t go. So today after the morning run we made a detour, one I’ve wanted to make on the many trips to and from the cabin. Man. I can’t wait to go back and explore more but without a side kick I didn’t want to wander too much due to fear. Getting hurt, someone kidnapping me...there is a list. So maybe once Shannon is back to himself we can finish the exploring together and maybe our friend Sam May just tag along too.
The walk-in still has stuff sitting in it. These kind of abandon situations baffle me.
